Fortified

Nowaday the Vezere and Dordogne Valley are peaceful and tranquil, but that has not always been the case, for hundreds of years the region has seen many fierce battles and wars. The 100 year war played a huge part in the Dordogne Region, and fortified castles, forts and bastides that are now mayor tourist attractions, were part of the making of the Dordogne and Vezere.
